Polyvinyl Chloride
Process Economics Program Report 13A
Published October 1991
This report is a supplement to Process Economics Program Report No. 13, "Polyvinyl Chloride," June 1966. The scope of Report 13 was restricted to the homopolymerization of vinyl chloride by suspension, emulsion, and bulk processes.
In this supplement, the progress in homopolymerization during the period 1966 to date has been reviewed. The economics of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) homopolymer production via the suspension and bulk processes have been revised to reflect significant new developments. Specifically, the effects of initiators, reactor size, and single train capacity on the economics of PVC production by the suspension process have been evaluated.
The scope of this supplement has also been expanded to cover co-polymers in which vinyl chloride is the main component. A detailed process and economic evaluation has been made of a suspension process for making a vinyl chloride-propylene copolymer, which was recently developed for clear containers for food.
