Article: Peruvian ginger exports maintain strong growth
Peruvian ginger exports peaked at 11,471 tonnes valued at USD24.0 million from January-May 2020, trebling data in the same period the last year.
The Peruvian harvest is held between June and July. There are no official records, although Peruvian sources reported a bumper output, which might have doubled or trebled the previous crop.
The US and the Netherlands were the main importers, accounting for 51% and 26%, respectively, of the total volume. Chile was the main Latin American purchaser, accounting for 7% of volume.
Ginger for demand boomed due to the Covid-19 pandemic spread. Peru has been taking advantage of slowed Indian and Chinese ginger shipments.
