This report emphasizes the technology and economics of FLEXICOKING, a recently developed residuum conversion process based on the applied technology of fluid bed coking and carbon gasification. The FLEXICOKING process is a method of upgrading heavy, high-sulfur, low-value crudes into a variety of clean, useful products while complying with strict environmental pollution regulations.

Recent technology and economics on delayed coking and coke calcining were reviewed and updated from the PEP Petroleum Coke Report 72 published in 1971.

Technical information on FLEXICOKING was made available by the developer of the process, Exxon Research and Engineering Company.
