PEPCOST II is a computer program to estimate chemical plant investment and production costs. It is meant primarily for preliminary studies of alternative processes on a relative basis. The input to the program requires material and energy balances and sizing of the major process equipment items. The output includes:

  • Equipment f.o.b. and direct installation costs
  • Battery limits and off-sites investment
  • Production costs Master list of equipment and utilities requirements
  • Echo on input.

The program makes computations for three capacities: base, high, and low. Also, it can adjust data entered for a particular base capacity to correspond to a new base capacity specified by the user. A plant may be divided into as many as six sections. The program shows the results by sections as well as for the whole plant.

PEPCOST II is written in standard FORTRAN 77. The package consists of some 100 program units and requires about 200,000 bytes of computer memory to load and execute. Average execution time for a run on a minicomputer, such as VAX 780, is about 10 seconds. The user need not know FORTRAN or any other computer language.
