Since the publication of the Process Economics Program (PEP) Report No. 2, Propylene Oxide and Ethylene Oxide, in January 1965, sufficient new information on propylene oxide technology has appeared in patents and journals to warrant this supplementary report. The principal subject is propylene oxide, but new information on the production of ethylene oxide is also included.
Six new processes for the manufacture of propylene oxide, which appear to be promising in different degrees, are evaluated. Other features of new processes are qualitatively discussed. One process in the original report (noncatalytic vapor-phase process) has been modified to represent a new process of the same general nature. The processes covered in this report include:
